Why France is different
"France has the strongest 5G coverage in continental Europe after the 2024 Paris Olympics upgrade — every TGV route is now fully 5G end-to-end."
France is the single largest inbound tourism market on earth — 102 million arrivals in 2024. Orange and SFR split urban France almost evenly on 5G, but coverage quality diverges sharply once you leave the TGV lines: Alpine valleys and the Massif Central have known Orange-only stretches where SFR-backed eSIMs drop to 3G.
For EU residents, eSIM Garden's France plans make most sense as a backup — your home EU SIM already roams. Non-EU travellers see the biggest savings: a week of UK, US, or Canadian roaming in France runs $60–$120. A 10 GB France eSIM does the same work for under $15.
Coverage you can actually measure.
We run France on 2 carriers so your profile falls back automatically if one signal drops. Coverage figures are measured against our own uptime data, not carrier marketing claims.
Orange France
4G · 5G
Best rural and Alpine coverage. Full 5G Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Nice.
SFR
4G · 5G
Strong in cities and along motorways; weaker in Massif Central.
Activation in under sixty seconds.

Troubleshooting
- TGV tunnels through the Alps have no service on any carrier — this is expected.
- Paris Metro is mostly underground without signal. Station platforms have Wi-Fi on most lines.
- If Orange signal drops in rural Massif Central, airplane-mode-toggle forces a reconnect.
Who France eSIM is built for.
Eurostar day-tripper
Buy a 1 GB plan, land at Gare du Nord connected, head home the same evening.
Camino de Santiago starter
Some Camino routes begin in France — Le Puy, Vézelay. Bundle with a Spain plan for seamless pilgrimage coverage.
Non-EU traveller escaping roaming
US and Canadian carriers charge $10–15/day in France. A 7-day 5 GB plan costs less than one day of roaming.
