Why Switzerland is different

"Swisscom is the only European carrier with continuous 4G coverage through the Gotthard Base Tunnel — the longest railway tunnel in the world at 57 km. Most other carriers drop signal in sections."

Switzerland is not part of the EU and the EU roaming rules do not apply — meaning EU visitors pay cross-border fees here even when their home carrier is European. Swisscom has invested heavily in Alpine coverage and claims 99.9% national reach including high-altitude train routes.

Our Switzerland plans use Swisscom primarily with Sunrise as fallback. The Jungfraujoch "Top of Europe" rail route has continuous 4G even in the tunnels — uniquely for a European mountain railway.

Coverage you can actually measure.

We run Switzerland on 2 carriers so your profile falls back automatically if one signal drops. Coverage figures are measured against our own uptime data, not carrier marketing claims.

Troubleshooting

  • EU-SIM users: Switzerland is NOT in the EU. Your home EU roaming plan does NOT cover it — you need a separate plan or you will be charged.
  • Jungfraujoch has 4G throughout the train route, including tunnels. This is unique to Switzerland.
  • Liechtenstein coverage via Swisscom roaming but we do not officially include it.

Who Switzerland eSIM is built for.

  • Alpine hiker

Full 4G on every major hiking trail, including the Haute Route. Swiss precision applies to coverage too.

  • EU-SIM visitor

Your home EU plan does NOT cover Switzerland. A 7-day plan costs less than one day of roaming fees.

  • Grand Train Tour rider

Seven consecutive days of rail travel with connectivity in every tunnel and pass. Work from the Glacier Express.

Questions people actually ask.

  • No. Switzerland is not in the EU. EU roaming regulations do not apply, and your home EU carrier will charge you international roaming rates. This catches out tens of thousands of EU visitors every year.
